Kauai film challenge

Filmmaking Rules

  • Creative Process must be completed during the event timeline, including but not limited to:

    • Script

    • Rehearsal

    • Costume and set design

    • Filming

    • Special effects

    • Sound design

    • Rendering/Exporting

  • Teams may complete the following prior to event:

    • Team formation

    • Location scouting/permitting (e.g., places requiring permission to film - private locations, businesses, etc.)

    • Securing equipment

  • The following must be adhered to:

    • Animal Safety - Films involving death or mutilation of animals is prohibited

    • Nudity and/or sexual content is prohibited

    • Graphic violence and gore is prohibited 

  • Runtime: 3-7 minutes

  • Teams must own rights to music or sound effects

Team Formation

  • Minimum: 1

  • Maximum: 5

  • All cast and crew must be volunteers

Submission Format

  • File Format:

    • .MP4 / H.264

    • Full HD 1920 x 1080px (16:9)

  • Delivery:

    • USB

    • WeTransfer

    • Google Drive

  • Films must be submitted by July 20, 2022 at 11:59pm HST

  • Films must not be released online prior to final screening event

Judging Criteria

Each film is evaluated by a panel of industry professionals using the following criteria:

  • Script / Plot development / storytelling 

  • Color, framing, editing

  • Audio quality / soundtrack / incorporation of original music

  • Submitted script / Project overview / Purpose / Breakdown

  • Overall effect and impact
